James Hickey

Vice President for Government Affairs

James Hickey is the Vice President for Government Affairs and runs the Day & Zimmermann (D&Z) Washington office located in Rosslyn, Virginia.  On behalf of D&Z, he interacts with the Executive and Legislative branches on issues related to defense, energy, construction & government services.  He also regularly interacts with the foreign embassies of allies and friends of the US.

Prior to being hired in 2004, he worked as the Director of Congressional Affairs for the Raytheon Company for 14 years (1990 to 2004) representing a variety of defense programs. 

His work in Washington began on Capitol Hill as a Legislative Assistant for Defense, Foreign Policy and Intelligence for Congressman Herbert Bateman (R-VA-01) from 1986-1989, and later as Legislative Assistant for Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) where he had responsibility for Energy and Defense policies and appropriations.

He is the founder and past president of the Government Relations Association (GRA) – the fastest growing professional association representing the GR, lobbying, fundraising, and public policy community.  Learn more at www.GRAssociation.org.

A graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) where he received his BA in International Relations in 1984, and his MA in National Security Affairs in 1986 with a focus on foreign policy issues in the Mideast and Soviet Union, and a minor in Literature and Film.

He resides in northern Virginia with his family.
